I'd be happy to point you in the right direction if you have a rough idea about how much light you'll need, and what kind of run time you're looking for. A USB battery outputs 5V, so you need LEDs and a controller that match that. It's possible to make your own battery powered strips using a decent quality rechargeable USB power bank and a boost converter along with standard 12V strips, but I think you're not going to get much more than 10-20 hours out of it if indirect lighting is what you want. If you're looking directly at the LEDs, that's not going to be too bad, but for indirect lighting and bouncing the light off the wall, you're not going to see it unless the room is very dark. If they're claiming a run time of 100 hours with 30 LEDs, then they're only running the LEDs at about 3% of their maximum brightness. ![]() So you've got enough energy to light one LED at full brightness for 2000 mAh / 20 mA = 100 hours. 3 AA batteries are going to provide about 2000 mAh at 4.5V.Ī standard LED takes about 20 mA at full brightness. I pulled out an old old power bank of 2200mAh 5v 1A output thats been sitting for some. It runs fine for several hours (with the AAs) which is great but Id like to hook it up to a small power bank. It looks like most of these chargers are 5v output, and range between 750a and 1.5a, although I have a Samsung charger that lists 5.0v - 2a. I'd prefer them to be battery powered so there's not some random wire coming from the piece. The other requirement is that I would be able to use as a power supply the typical USB style charger as may come with your smartphone or tablet or what have you. I'm building a wall piece for my sister and I'm trying to find a set of strip LED lights to attach to the back to make it "glow". ![]()
